Deep excavation of a site typically requires shoring of the surrounding soils to keep the work site open and safe for equipment and workers to continue construction. Temporary or permanent shoring walls are often the answer to achieve this. However, additional support is required in many cases, as the shoring wall alone cannot prevent a cave-in.
Helical tiebacks are often the answer for this additional support, acting as a Deadman anchor beyond the active zone. The helical pile is installed through the steel sheeting, and the termination end is designed with a whaler or wall-plate system on the face of the wall and then post-tensioned and tested to meet the required specifications. The design of helical tiebacks can be integrated into projects like highway bridge abutments, commercial retaining walls, and waterfront seawalls.
